A Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) A320CEO aircraft experienced a lightning strike while the aircraft is parked at stand at the Brunei International Airport on 28th July 2019.
We would like to confirm that there were no operating crews and guests onboard during the time of the incident and no injuries were reported. Our pilots and cabin crews are trained to follow standard operating procedures to handle such incidents professionally and to ensure the safety of our guests at all times.
The aircraft will be inspected by RB engineers with the assistance of Airbus structural engineers to determine the repair extent and identify any damage to the aircraft before releasing it back to service. All aircraft are designed with the ability to withstand a lightning strike and such occurrence does not affect anyone inside the aircraft including when on operation.
The safety of our guests remains of paramount importance to RB and we are closely monitoring weather conditions with the Department of Civil Aviation and the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department to ensure the safety operations of all flights.
